King Lear CoverThe One ‘King Lear’: a Reply to Holger Syme

In September 2016 the Los Angeles Review of Books published an extremely hostile review by Holger Syme of my book, The One ‘King Lear’ (Harvard University Press). I am grateful to Tom Lutz, editor of the LARB, for publishing my reply. To complement the article, I add three Appendices. In the first I document several instances where Mr Syme has falsely accused me of having attacked a number of respected textual scholars. In the second appendix I list the 27 longer passages that Nicholas Okes omitted from the 1608 Quarto of King Lear. In the third I list and quote the 66 shorter passages that he omitted.

Appendix 1 Appendices 2 & 3
